About the Reserve

Kamehameha V Deer Reserve is dedicated to preserving and protecting The King's Deer as a cultural part of Hawaii's historical sovereign monarchy. We are establishing a world-class model of harmonious land stewardship where vibrant native ecosystems and a protected living royal legacy coexist, fueling community resilience and indigenous cultural on Maui, Hawaii.

We are currently evaluating premier conservation tracts across Maui to establish our permanent physical sanctuary footprint.

Our Pillars

1. ʻĀina Conservation & Ka Wao Akua

• Focus: Implementing landscape-scale restoration across the reserve,

anchored by Ka Wao Akua—"The Realm of the Gods”—a pristine, one-acre living window maintained in its absolute pre-contact state, completely free of introduced herbivores or human interference, showcasing pure, unaltered Hawaiʻi.

2. Royal Legacy Stewardship

• Focus: Maintaining a humane, sustainably managed sanctuary—a

puʻuhonua— for a resident axis deer herd, honoring their historical status as

a living legacy requested by King Kamehameha V.

3. Community & Economic Empowerment

• Focus: Generating green jobs, sustainable tourism, and local economic

opportunities that allow the community to directly thrive alongside the land.

4. Cultural & Educational Leadership

• Focus: Integrating indigenous knowledge and youth education programs to

foster the next generation of environmental and cultural stewards.
